Jakarta (AsiaNews) – An Indonesian terrorist blew himself up this morning in an American restaurant in eastern Jakarta: the bomb damaged the building and seriously injured the attacker, who was admitted to a military hospital.

Police identified the man responsible as Muhammad Nuh, 36 years, a resident of the capital.

Defying considerable security measures in place for the upcoming visit of US President George Bush, Nuh managed to sit down in the heart of the restaurant with the bomb strapped to his body.

After placing his order, the man nearly passed out: the waiters who ran to help him noticed the red and blue wires under his t-shirt and drew back. At precisely that moment, the terrorist recovered and blew himself up. His condition is critical.

Police who went on site found a piece of paper in one of his pocket that said: "The Koran has underlined the deeds of men like a necklace around the neck". The meaning of the message is not clear.

Local sources said Nuh was a taciturn man, an expert in electronic repairs. He lives with his sister and her husband in a house in Bidara Cina sub-district.
