Hanoi announces three new bird flu cases

Hanoi (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Vietnam has informed the World Health Organisation (WHO) that three more bird flu cases were recorded in the last two weeks.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 82—38 people who fell ill died.

"The three patients live in Hanoi and are alive. [But] the Vietnamese government has not provided any further information," the WHO said.

Today, state-controlled media also announced another six new cases of the H5N1 infection, all in northern provinces. All six patients were admitted to a hospital in the capital. The information though could not be confirmed from official sources.

Since the bird flu was detected in South-East Asia, 54 people have died: 38 in Vietnam, 12 in Thailand, and 4 in Cambodia.
