Lahore: Christmas with the poor, widows and orphans

by Shafique Khokhar

A Christian couple donates food parcels to 150 poor families. Rojar Randhawa and his wife have been carrying out this charitable activity for three years. To "bring Christ back to the center of Christmas celebrations, we must feed the hungry, comfort the afflicted, love the marginalized, forgive sinners and give hope to those who do not have any."

Lahore (AsiaNews) - A Christian family in Lahore celebrated Christmas with widows and orphans, according to the teaching of the Gospel which invites us not to forget the poorest on the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Yesterday Rojar Randhawa and his wife , residents of the Christian neighborhood of Youhanabad, donated parcels of food to 150 poor families in the area. The man tells AsiaNews: "It is the third year in a row that we have been able to distribute food at Christmas, thanks to the help of some friends in Pakistan and abroad. Christmas is everyone's party, we share God's love and blessings with those in need. "

Food donations will allow the poor to have enough food for a month. The event began with Christmas carols, hymns and prayers; then there was the distribution of the parcels. “Christmas - says Rojar - is where there is love. If we want to bring Christ back to the center [of Christmas celebrations], we must feed the hungry, comfort the afflicted, love the marginalized, forgive sinners and give hope to those who do not have any”.

Astar Joseph, a widow, thanks “all those who support us. This gift means so much to us, because my family had nothing to cook on Christmas days. " The woman invites "not to forget the orphans, promoting their education through school programs or scholarships".

Shehnaz Manzoor, another widow who received the donation, is "grateful to our Christian brothers and sisters who made my family's Christmas joyful, offering us happiness in the form of food for me and my children." And she adds: "This help comes from the hands of God. He is the only one who gives food and satisfies the needs of the poor because he loves them so much".

The Christian couple thanks Sal and Nageen James, in the United States, who have made this charitable activity possible since 2017. "We want to share the love of Christ - they say - with the poorest. God bless Pakistan and all those who support the poor communities around the world. We extend to all our best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. "
