by Shafique Khokhar

A madrassa in the city of Dera Ismail Khan was the scene of the chilling crime. Three female teachers killed a colleague upon an order delivered by the Prophet in a dream. According to investigators, the victim was targeted out of hatred because she followed an Islamic TV preacher who was viewed with suspicion by the others.

Dera Ismail Khan (AsiaNews) – Three madrassa teachers killed a colleague, 21-year-old Safoora Bibi, in Dera Ismail Khan, a city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to the investigation, the horrendous crime took place in a street in the morning when the victim was on her way to Jamia Islamia Falahul Binaat, a school in the Anjumabad neighbourhood.

According to police, the three female teachers accused of the crime said that a 13-year-old relative of one of them had a dream in which the Prophet accused the victim of blasphemy and ordered them to kill her.

Police arrested Umra Aman, Razia Hanfi and Aisha Nomani as well as the 13-year-old relative girl. They note that the murdered woman was a follower of a well-known Pakistani Islamic TV preacher, Tariq Jamil, which her colleagues viewed with suspicion.

The accused belong to the Mehsud tribe in South Waziristan district and currently live in the Anjumabad area.

Wafaqul Madaris Al-Arabia Pakistan, the largest federation of Pakistani madrassas, condemned the murder calling it “unfortunate”. Its governing board called for a fair and independent investigation into the crime and punitive measures.

Pervaiz Masih, a social activist in Karachi, also condemned the crime asking the government for a fair trial in this and all blasphemy cases. The latter are on the rise across the country.

He also expressed concern that teachers and a teenage girl were involved in this affair.
