Resort island leading Cambodia’s smoke-free policy

Koh Rong Island, the most popular tourist destination after Angkor Wat, is set to become a smoke-free zone by the end of the year. There are already nine towns in Cambodia where smoking is banned. Over the last 25 years, the Kingdom has halved the number of smokers, but the low tax rate continues to encourage consumption.

  • Singapore: 900 mental health clinics on the way

    In addition to the creation of new specialised centres, dedicated mental health services will be introduced in all polyclinics in Singapore. The number of psychiatrists and psychologists in public health will also be increased, by 30 per cent and 40 per cent respectively. The government wants to implement the measures by 2030.

  • 413 children dead from measles in 2023

    WHO estimates at least 34,300 measles and rubella cases in the first seven months of the year, up from 27,000 in 2022 (with 220 deaths). Critical issues include an overburdened health care system and low immunization rates. Need to strengthen vaccination campaign.
