Gaza: Israel hits 200 Hamas targets. War toll exceeds 2100 dead

Today's news: Pyongyang sentences a woman to three years for talking on the phone with her daughter who had fled to South Korea; One in seven people in South East Asian countries suffer from a mental illness, still considered a stigma; A new (and powerful) earthquake strikes Afghanistan; Arundhati Roy risks a trial for a 2010 public speech on Kashmir; Beijing's presence in the UN Human Rights Council confirmed with 154 votes.

ISRAEL - PALESTINE
The Israeli air force hit over 200 targets in Gaza overnight, believed to belong to the Hamas movement. Meanwhile, the death toll has exceeded 2100, with 1200 dead on the Israeli front and around 950 among the Palestinians in the Strip. Testimonies from Gaza and Israel speak of violence and devastation "never experienced" before in decades of conflict, starting with the "massacre of civilians" by Hamas, while "no one is safe" in the Strip. Today in the West Bank thousands of Palestinians protest against the raids. Rocket launches towards Israel from Syria and Lebanon were also recorded.

KOREA
Pyongyang has sentenced a woman to three years in prison for speaking on the phone with her daughter, who previously fled the country and now lives in South Korea. This was reported by Radio Free Asia (RFA), according to which another woman - who organized the call between the two - he will instead have to serve a year at hard labor while his family will be forced into exile in a remote area.

SOUTH EAST ASIA
The stigma caused by mental illness in Southeast Asian countries is still widespread today, although one in seven people in the region suffer from a disorder or condition and the differences in treatments and care in some nations are "enormous". This is the alarm raised by the WHO, according to which approximately 260 million people have mental problems or illnesses without receiving treatment.

AFGHANISTAN
A new, powerful earthquake hit the north-west of Afghanistan while rescuers had decided to interrupt the search operations for possible survivors of the devastating earthquake of 7 October which caused over 2,400 confirmed victims and thousands of injured. Many houses razed to the ground in the Herat area. Interventions are hindered by the criticality of the infrastructure, deteriorated by decades of war and lack of foreign aid.

INDIA
The 61-year-old Indian writer and activist Arundhati Roy risks prosecution for a 2010 speech on Kashmir, a sensitive issue in the country. In the past you had stood out as a critical voice of the government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A senior New Delhi official today gave the green light to a criminal investigation filed years ago in court, for the crimes of "sedition" and "secessionism".

CHINA - UN
The United Nations General Assembly yesterday elected the 15 new member countries of the UN Human Rights Council, in which China's presence was confirmed for a second mandate, with a favorable vote of 154 states. It is the main human rights body of the United Nations and has the task of supporting and promoting fundamental freedoms at a global level.

RUSSIA
At one of the main gas extraction sites in Russia, in Kovyktinsk in the Siberian region of Irkutsk, workers have started protest actions against the bosses of Gazprom. The latter are withholding their salaries due to lack of funds, with alternating phases of strikes to "not end up as slaves" for the gas almost entirely directed towards China.

CENTRAL ASIA - AMERICA
South American cartels increasingly active in organizing the illegal entry of Central Asian citizens into the United States through Mexico, as Currentime reveals. The route on the Istanbul-Madrid-Bogota axis (or Panama and Managua), with passages on foot between Nicaragua and Honduras, then Guatemala up to Mexico. Migrants are deceived, plundered and subjected to violence.
