Christians and Buddhists should teach good stewardship of the earth
The Pontifical Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue issues a statement on the occasion of Vesakh. In it calls on Christians and Buddhists to promote in the world a culture of respect for creation, one that focuses on sustainable development and climate change.

Vatican releases message on Buddha’s feast day (Vesakh), stresses shared path of nonviolence
Religions must work together because religion is often used to justify violence. Christians and Buddhists recognise the need to heal evil in the heart where it originates. They must promote peace education and respect for the environment as well as reject "hate speech" in the media and rebuild "broken societies".

The president of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue says that the letter contains “new elements” and is “a positive signal” to be taken up.

Building harmony between Christians and Muslims till religious freedom is achieved, says Pope
Benedict XVI stresses the urgency for dialogue to strengthen religions’ credibility. He calls on political and religious leaders to ensure religious freedom for everyone and slams violence perpetrated in “the name of God.” Christians and Muslims must be open to working together on the value of life and help people in need to build peace and destroy “the devastating power of ideologies”.

The Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue issues a message for the Buddhist Feast of Vesakh to "join forces to educate people, particularly the young, to seek fraternity, to live in fraternity and to dare to build fraternity."
Pope to 138 Islamic scholars, continue dialogue on the basis of respect of the person
In a letter signed by Cardinal Bertone, Benedict XVI expresses his appreciation for the initiative by the Muslim scholars, inviting its initiator and a delegation of signatories to the Vatican. Jointly, both sides must promote mutual respect and acceptance amongst the younger generations.
