Card. Zen: “Beijing should learn from Vietnam and be open to religious freedom”
After a two-day visit in Ho Chi Minh City, the bishop of Hong Kong talked to AsiaNews about the deep faith of the Vietnamese people and the openness of the government towards the Church. He invited China to disavow the Patriotic Association and grant full freedom to its Catholics.

Mgr John Tong clarified informal statements he made in South Korea on the situation of dialogue and diplomatic ties between Beijing and the Holy See, saying he believed they were progressing.

Urgent appeals by Card. Zen and Bishop Tong against illicit Shantou ordination
Cardinal asks Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao to stop "rogue officials" who carry out violence against the Church and the conscience of the faithful, Msgr. Tong asks all the faithful of the diocese to pray that the faith of Christians in China may be strengthened. Justice and peace, on behalf of Cardinal Zen, issues 60 thousand copies of a newspaper on the illegitimate ordinations, religious freedom and priests imprisoned in China, as well as passages of the Letter of Benedict XVI to Chinese Catholics.

Episcopal ordination in Xuzhou is "indecent and astounding", says Card Zen
The bishop of Hong Kong stresses the "astounding" methods by the Patriotic Association and the Religious Affairs Bureau in the unlawful Episcopal ordination. It make China look ridiculous, offends the faithful and damages the interests of the country. He appeals to the central government to start meaningful talks with the Holy See.
