For Moscow, it is time to respond to Pope Francis' ecumenical openings
In his recent visit to Bartholomew I (28-30 November 2014), Pope Francis emphasised the ecumenism of the blood, which can overcome theologians' difficulties. On that occasion, he also expressed closeness to Kirill, the patriarch of Moscow, and proposed ways for unity transcending Uniatism. For the Russian Patriarchate, it is time to take a step to break the deadlock.

Moscow Patriarchate in favor of postponing Council of Crete
The Synod of the Russian Church has decided not to participate in pan-Orthodox gathering, which should open this week. Now all await Phanar response. According to some commentators, the rivalry between Kirill and Bartholomew I is at the root of the problem: for Russians, Constantinople is seeking hegemony in the Orthodox world, and supports the creation of a Ukrainian Church independent from the Moscow Patriarchate.

Bartholomew I and Catholics together on World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation
For the first time tomorrow, Orthodox and Catholics will celebrate event together, which Pope Francis picked this year. The content of the patriarch’s message is very similar to that of the encyclical Laudato si’. Man is a fool to think that he owns creation rather than being its steward. Ascetic behaviour can correct the excesses of consumerism. The Gospel can clean the spiritual garbage caused by material garbage.
