ISRAEL-IRAN-UNITED STATES

President Donald Trump has called for Iran's “unconditional surrender” and is considering joining Israel in the war against Tehran, a move that would allow for a deep strike on the Fordow nuclear site. Supreme Leader Khamenei responded by saying that Iran will not compromise with Israel and renewed his war rhetoric. Meanwhile, Israeli raids and Iranian missile launches continued overnight, although the latter were less intense than in previous days. According to local sources, the death toll in Iran is much higher than that declared by the regime and has now reached almost 600.

INDONESIA

On the Indonesian island of Flores, the Laki Laki volcano has resumed erupting, with ash reaching heights of up to 10,000 metres. The Indonesian government has raised the alert level to maximum, evacuating 450 families and blocking many flights to Bali. Last November, a sudden eruption of Laki Laki killed nine people.

INDIA

Eight months after their mutual expulsion, India and Canada have agreed to re-establish high commissioners in each other's capitals as a first step towards normalising frozen relations. The announcement came after a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G7 leaders' summit in Kananaskis. This is the first substantial bilateral commitment between the leaders of India and Canada since the 2023 clash with then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over allegations of Indian government involvement in the killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.

CHINA

Chinese central bank governor Pan Gongsheng announced that China will establish an international operation centre for its digital currency (digital RMB). The centre aims to promote the internationalisation of digital currency and innovation in digital finance. The initiative is part of a package of eight new measures announced by Pan, which will be implemented in Shanghai, the country's financial centre.

VIETNAM

To Long, the Vietnamese leader To Lam, has been appointed director of the External Security Department of the Ministry of Public Security. The promotion took place during a ceremony held on 4 June, images of which were released. According to experts, Long's appointment is the latest in a series of appointments made by Lam to consolidate his power.

RUSSIA

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has published crime statistics for the first quarter of 2025, showing a significant increase in corruption cases, up by almost 25% compared to the same period last year (15,458 compared to 12,466), with widespread bribery, organised crime networks and cases involving huge sums of money.

KYRGYZSTAN

Kyrgyzstan has obtained a million loan from the Islamic Development Bank to build two new power plants in the Issyk-Kul region and a 90-kilometre, 220 kW Tamga-Karakol transmission line, which, according to the Ministry of Energy, will solve the area's overload problems and enable new targets to be connected, such as the strategic tourist base 'Three Peaks'.
