Jerusalem (AsiaNews/Agencies) - Israeli planes resumed their air strikes in Gaza, as Hamas rockets fell on towns in southern Israel. In fact, even before the 72-hour ceasefire was up at 8 am, four rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip against Eshkol, Sderot and Ashkelon.
Last night, Palestinian sources said that talks in Cairo went nowhere. Hamas was unable to get the blockade lifted, including the reopening of border crossings and Gaza's port. Israel failed to achieve the demilitarisation of the Strip.
Yesterday Hamas said that it would continue the talks even without the cease-fire, but today reports indicate that the Israelis - whose names were never revealed - had already left last night, ending the talks.
In four weeks of clashes, 1,940 Palestinians, mostly civilians, were killed. The Israelis lost 67 people, only three of whom were civilians.
