Beijing 2008, US crackdown against drugs produced in China
In the latest anti-doping crackdown US police confiscate human hormones and steroids produced in China sold in the United States, where they are banned. Ahead of Beijing 2008, illegal trafficking in performance enhancing drugs on the increase.

Beijing (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Police in the United States have sequestered massive quantities of human hormones and illegal steroids produced in China with a market value of over seven million dollars from 30 illegal laboratories in New York.  The products, which are banned if not produced under the control of state health authorities, were destined for the athletes market.

During the operation police also sequestered 20 computers containing lists of a network of Chinese industries and American businessmen. Documents found during the raid show that the illegal trade had been going on for quite some time.  This confirms that China still tops the world list in performance enhancing drug production, on the rise ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

In attempts to counter the trend, Beijing authorities have launched a campaign against drug use, which aims to “stop the illicit trade of prescription drugs that contain performance-enhancing substances”.  Despite this, experts forecast that the campaign will take a long time to have even the slightest effect, given the high demand for these products.

The illegal trade is based above all on Human Growth Hormones (HGH) banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency and the US Food and Drug Administration. The internet however, is proving impossible to police, allowing many athletes to easily obtain the drugs from Chinese laboratories, who produced them without any health checks.

What is the true good of the Church in China
by Card. Joseph Zen Ze-kiunOn the eve of an important meeting in Rome on "Jesus our contemporary," Card. Zen asks all Catholics to help the Church in China (and especially its legitimate bishops) to emerge from ambiguity, to follow Benedict XVI and "rid" themselves of those organisms that are enemies of the faith (see PA, Bureau of Religious Affairs, etc. .), and that control and stifle the faithful. The Chinese Church is on the verge of a schism caused by "bargaining" between the Catholic faith and political power. The subtitle of this article (wanted by the author) is: "In dialogue with the Community of Saint Egidio and Gianni Valente of 30Days".

Msgr. Savio Hon: Freedom for arrested bishops and priests, is also good for China
by Bernardo CervelleraEven if the government does not give answers or to the Holy See, or diplomats, or to friends of the Vatican and China, it is important that "no one forgets about them." The Chinese government's official response when asked is always: "We do not know." "We need to pray first," "but we must also appeal to those who are holding them."
