Pope: fairs, an economic opportunity and showcase for beauty of different cultures

Francis received CEOs and presidents of the most important trade fair and event organizers in the world. "International exhibitions contribute to the growth of a culture of encounter, which strengthens the bonds of solidarity and promotes mutual enrichment between members of the human family."

Vatican City (AsiaNews) - International exhibitions and fairs "not only have positive effects on regional economies and labor markets", but also offer "significant opportunities to show the whole world the rich diversity and beauty of local cultures and ecosystems" .

Today's audience for the participants in the UFI - Global Ceo Summit (Union of International Fairs), which brings together managing directors and presidents of the most important organizing bodies of fairs and events in the world, taking place in Rome until tomorrow, 7 February. given occasion to Pope Francis to argue that "international exhibitions contribute to the growth of a culture of encounter, which strengthens the bonds of solidarity and promotes mutual enrichment between members of the human family".

To CEOs and presidents of the most important organizers of fairs and events in the world, present at the Summit, Francis said that “In our ever-shrinking world, we are increasingly conscious that the different aspects of our lives and activities – including the social, cultural and ecological – are closely interrelated". For this reason, "your work", "as a service to the common good, should promote inclusion, the care of the common home and the integral development of individuals and peoples. These ethical concerns are not secondary, but essential to building an economy in which financial returns are not the only variable to measure success. "

"Exhibitions that help the local economy, engage its labour force, give value and prominence to its culture and reverently respect its human and natural ecology will ultimately be more successful and memorable. They will have an impact and appeal both local and worldwide."

Pope Francis concluded: "Despite the many potential difficulties that can arise in the course of preparing and realizing the fairs and exhibitions that are your specific competence, these events can create a network of just human relations that can endure well beyond the event itself. You can be rightly proud of your initiatives when they generate a stronger awareness at the service of the common good and integral development. "
