Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong in the top ten of the world economy

World Economic Forum on competitiveness ranking published. Top three unchanged since last year: Switzerland, Singapore and the United States. Japan sixth, followed by Hong Kong. The world economy is slowing down compared to the previous decade, only exception- addition to China - India, which gains 16 positions.

Singapore (AsiaNews) - Singapore remains second in the world ranking of the 140 most competitive countries in the world. This is confirmed by data published by the World Economic Forum (WEF), which show the podium unchanged from last year, with Switzerland top of the ranks followed by Singapore and the United States.

The WEF ranking of is calculated following the 113 indicators that the organization retains relevant in evaluating the economic productivity of a country. Singapore is the first Asian country in the top ten worldwide, followed by Japan in sixth place and Hong Kong in seventh.

The country has gained most places is the Netherlands, which climbed from eighth to fifth. The largest  drop recorded  was Brazil, which lost 18 positions to 74th, "winning" the title of worst Brics nation. India gained 16 positions coming in at 55.

The WEF defines competitiveness as "the set of institutions, policies, and factors that determine the level of productivity of an economy, which in turn sets the level of prosperity that the country can earn." These indicators include areas such as infrastructure, innovation, and the macroeconomic environment. 

The report shows that most of the advanced economies have recovered from the financial crisis, although some there are some worrying signs of a new trend in slow global economic compared to the recent past. For example, if you compare the productivity growth of the last 10 years with the previous decade, many of the dominant countries have seen a slowdown, with the only exceptions of India and China
