The Pope's legacy is in his message of peace, says Bishop of Karachi
Karachi (AsiaNews) "The voice of the voiceless is no more," Mgr Evarist Pinto, Archbishop of Karachi, told AsiaNews. To him, the Pontiff was a "beloved father and kind-hearted pastor", someone the world will not forget, "a charismatic and dynamic leader, a champion for justice and human rights, the defender of the poor and the oppressed".
He led "with dedication the mission God bestowed upon him in difficult times for the Church and the world", Archbishop Pinto said.
"He carried his duties to the fullest," he added, "using all the skills and talents God gave him, first of all: his unwavering faith".
He did what he did despite the pain and suffering his native land of Poland endured. Indeed, "God called upon him to learn what pain is and he accepted with courage the call to bear the Cross".
The prelate remembers the Pope as "someone who stands above others, a man of courage and strength".
Archbishop Pinto praised the Pontiff's care for the new generations, for "the children and the young".
For him, the sorrow that comes from the death of "this great man, servant of God and of the Church becomes bearable because of the precious lesson he left us: "Love converts the heart and gives peace. And this message shall remain for long in the hearts of Christians and of the world". (QF)
