The Dalai Lama choses the US to safeguard the acts of his predecessors

The Buddhist leader has given his approval to the construction of a "Dalai Lama Library Lama" - similar to presidential ones - in Ithaca, New York. The structure will contain writings, teachings and artifacts of the 14 leaders of Tibetan Buddhism. The choice of America "to preserve Tibetan heritage".

 

Dharamsala (AsiaNews) - The Dalai Lama has chosen Ithaca, in the State of New York, as the location for the construction of the "Library of the Dalai Lama". The building, in the style of "Presidential Libraries", will contain writings, teachings and artifacts of the 14 leaders of Tibetan Buddhism. In addition there will also be a large area to accommodate Tibetan students and visiting lamas.

The announcement was made by Svante Myrick, mayor of the city 400 kilometers from New York: "The library and museum named after His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama will be built on the South Hill. Although dozens of cities in the area applied,  Ithaca was chosen because it is home to a branch of the Namgyal Monastery ".

This is one of the most important training places of Tibetan Buddhism, the monastery and its leaders have proposed the building of the Library. The chairman of the Namgyal council , Ven. Tenzin Choesang, explains that the choice of America "aims to protect the legacy of the Dalai Lama and allow access to these documents to the millions of Tibetans around the world."
