The Golden Bridge, a golden thread held up by a god’s hands

Opened in June, the Cầu Vàng or Golden Bridge is located in the Ba Na Hills and has already become a popular tourist attraction and a worldwide pictorial hit.

Hanoi (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Vietnamese architects built the Golden Bridge (Cầu Vàng) to look like a suspended gold thread supported by a god’s hands.

Located in the Ba Na Hills in the Ba Na Hills (central Vietnam), the structure has become a very popular tourist attraction since it opened. Pictures of the unique bridge have travelled the world.

Success was a surprise for its architects. “We’re proud that our product has been shared by people all over the world,” said Vu Viet Anh, principal designer and founder of TA Landscape Architecture.

At 150 metres, the bridge snakes through the forest high up in the mountains, in an area first developed under French colonial rule as a hill station. Today it boasts a cable car and a replica French medieval village with faux castle and cathedral.

Vietnam is no stranger to such unusual attractions. A “crystal cloud” installation of 58,000 shimmering Swarovski beads opened earlier this year in the rice-terraced hills of Yen Bai province (northern Vietnam).

The government is trying to boost tourism. Last year, some 13 million foreign visitors, mostly from China, spent time in the country, a far cry from the 35 million international visitors to Thailand in 2017.

Golden Bridge designer Anh said he already has another project in the works: a silver bridge made to look like a god’s strand of hair that will connect to his existing structure in the Ba Na Hills.
