Three Chinese bishops in Rome and Bologna for ‘Bridges of peace: the spirit of Assisi'

They are the bishops of Xian, Haimen, Zhoucun. The three are part of the Church recognized by the government. They had been ordained with a papal mandate. The two bishops invited to the Synod leave for China on October 15th.

Rome (AsiaNews) - Three Chinese bishops have come to Rome to take part in the meeting ‘Bridges of peace: the spirit of Assisi'", organized by the Community of S. Egidio in Bologna from October 14th to 16th.

The bishops are: Msgr. Anthony Dang Mingyan of Xian (Shaanxi); Msgr. Joseph Shen Bin of Haimen (Jiangsu); Msgr. Joseph Yang Yongqiang of Zhoucun (Shandong). They are accompanied by the priest pFr Zhang Qiulin (see photo).

The three prelates were ordained in 2005, the first, and in 2010 the other two, with a pontifical mandate. They are recognized by the government. The three bishops and their communities are very committed to evangelization and to charity to migrants, the poor and the peasants.

The meeting in Bologna comes in the wake of the Assisi prayer meeting launched by John Paul II in October 1986, in which leaders of world religions participated, including the Dala Lama. Politicians and representatives of different religions participate in the Bologna edition.

Meanwhile, the two Chinese bishops invited to the Synod, Msgr. Yang Xiaoting and Msgr. Guo Jincai, will leave Rome on October 15, before the conclusion of the Synod to which they were invited.
