The United States, Britain, France, and Germany blame Syria for stonewalling. Now fighting is expected to intensify. The Free Syrian Army replaces its chief. Syria has become the main destination for international jihadists. Britain is now worried about returning fighters. Iran could be a good partner for peace in the Middle East.

Geneva II: No 'substantive' result, but Brahimi remains hopeful
The UN and the Arab League Special Envoy for Syria admits little progress has been made but the "'Ice is breaking". The two sides end their first talks tomorrow by agreeing to meet after a week. The UN and Syrian authorities are discussing the possible evacuation of neighbourhoods under siege in Homs. The number of foreign terrorists is growing.

Geneva II: government and opposition clash over Bashar al-Assad's fate
The government calls on the rebels to respect Syria's sovereignty, proposes democratic elections without foreign influence and an end to terrorism. The opposition rejects direct talks. In Homs, the army will let women and children leave neighborhoods under siege, but no humanitarian convoy has yet entered the city.

Geneva II: second round of talks ends without results
UN mediator Lakhdar Brahimi apologises to the Syrian people for the lack of progress. The main point of contention remains the transitional government, which Damascus has strongly rejected. The opposition continues to demand Assad's removal.

Lakhdar Brahimi: some progress in Syria talks
In a statement, the UN envoy stresses that the two sides have found some common ground. Meetings will resume next month. Despite a desire to end the violence and the suffering of the Syrian people, nothing has been decided yet. Next week, a meeting is scheduled in Rome to discuss UN humanitarian aid in Syria. Both sides reject terrorism and violent extremism.

From March 14 to 24 new round of peace talks on Syria
Indirect dialogue through mediation of UN envoy. The truce has enabled the delivery of humanitarian aid in many areas that were under siege. Still no help in Daraya and Douma, besieged by government forces, and Deir Ezzor, besieged by ISIS.
