Card Gracias tells Dalit leaders that the Catholic Church in India is 100 per cent with Christian Dalits
The archbishop of Mumbai took part the meeting of the National Council of Dalit Christians. In India most Catholics are Dalits, 12 million out of 19 million. The Church has adopted new policies for greater integration.

For the first time, a women and Dalit, mayor of Bangalore
Sharadamma was elected unanimously. She is the 45th mayor of the city, the 5th woman. Her promise is to "renew Bangalore, without changing its identity." Only a year ago, she was a homemaker.
Orissa, "there is no justice for Christians"
The President of the Global Council of Indian Christians, Sajan K George, complains: "No legal aid, no more money, not even a house for victims of religious violence. The government must intervene, before it's too late. "
Orissa bishops call on government to rebuild churches by Christmas
The request is made in a letter addressed to the state’s chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, to help things get back to normal. However, violence and forced re-conversion to Hinduism are still taking place in the state, generating fear and terror. The bishops call on the central government to continue the deployment of special forces in the state until after the upcoming election which is scheduled for 9 April next year.
