Catholic award for media that “build peace”

Catholic Social Communications of Thailand award prize to media for commitment to the promotion of positive values. President of the Bishops Conference Msgr. Phimphisan urges media “not to forget its responsibility”.

Bangkok (AsiaNews) – “With the increasing of violence in worldwide society it is significantly necessary that the media take on its responsibility to transmit programmes with positive moral contents”.  With these words Msgr. George Yod Phimphisan, Bishop George Yod Phimphisan, president of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Thailand and president of Catholic Social Communications of Thailand explained the value of the Catholic Media Award in its 20th year.

Msgr. Phimphisan, who presided this morning over the awards’ ceremony, also underlined the importance of “cooperation between the school and the to pay more attention to the future of their children by guiding the programs they view together”.

The award born in 1988, is promoted by Cst in collaboration with School of Communication Arts of Assumption University and St. John University. Fr. Anthony Vorayudh Kitbamrung, Cst director, says the initiative aims to “encourage producers to develop mass media especially in building peace and healthy society, programs that support family life, love and honesty between couples and good relationships within the family”.

Among this years winners: a song entitled “Now”, which “encourage young people to reach for their dreams” and the programme called “Don’t wait until it’s too late” which encourages people to take care of their parents’ health”.
