The victim's name was Karuna and she was 22 years old. She had been stalked for a year by her neighbor who then murdered her. The woman died under the eyes of dozens of passers-by, who did nothing to stop the aggressor. It is the third attack in the capital in 48 hours.
New Delhi (AsiaNews / Agencies) - A teacher of 22 years was stabbed to death in a busy street in Delhi, without any passers-by coming to her aid. The woman's name was Karuna and the time of the attack she was walking with her cousin. The indifference of the dozens of passers-by has sparked widespread indignation on social media at the barbaric murder. One Twitter user wrote: "What is happening to humanity?".
The murder took place yesterday at around 9 am in Burari district. The surveillance cameras show a man riding a motorcycle approaching the woman and then repeatedly stabbing her with a knife. While on prone on the ground, the man then violently kicked her and unleashed blows to her head with stones. He then took photos of the lifeless body.
The incident has shocked the population, mainly because the cameras show that no one attempted to intervene to save the teacher. Only one man approached, but then fled when threatened by the aggressor.
From initial investigations revealed that the man, tracked down thanks to the cameras, is a neighbor of the victim and has a history of harassment: he had begun to stalk her about a year ago. Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police,Madhur Verma, confirmed that the family of the woman had lodged a complaint five months ago, but had found a compromise with the relatives of the stalker.
The victim is the third woman to be attacked in the Indian capital in the space of 48 hours. On Monday evening (September 19) a 25-year beautician was thrown off a building in Mongolpuri district, and is now hospitalized in serious condition. The day before, another 28 year old woman was stabbed to death in Inderpuri; the attacker then killed himself.
