Elections in Bihar: a heavy defeat for the prime minister Modi
The "Great secular alliance" wins 178 seats out of 243 total. The National Democratic Alliance led by Modi stopped at 58. The electoral debate marked by attacks from Hindu radicals against the secular writers and religious minorities. The Prime Minister has intervened in 26 debates. The state is the third largest in terms of population and size. A "new dawn" for Indian democracy.
Bihar, 20 children die poisoned by "free school lunches"
The tragedy occurred in an state run elementary school in Marakh. 27 other children admitted to hospitals. The little ones ate food contaminated with insecticides. The institute was part of the "Mid-Day Meal" national food program that provides free food in public schools.

For human rights activist Lenin Raghuvanshi, the defeat was expected. Socialist populist Samajwadi Party wins an absolute majority of seats. Rahul Gandhi's Congress party loses. Outgoing chief minister never fought to eliminate caste system.
Left Front’s hold on West Bengal at risk in state elections
The ruling leftwing administration is criticised for land expropriations and unemployment. State elections will be held in six phases with results announced on 13 May. Scheduled Caste and tribal voters will be crucial for the outcome. Both groups have reserved seats.

Gujarat Elections: Mgr Macwan calls for action to save the country from nationalist forces
State elections are slated for 9 and 14 December. In a letter, the archbishop of Gandhinagar urges the faithful “to pray for good leaders", noting “a growing sense of insecurity among the minorities”. However, reciting the Holy Rosary “will be of great help".
