Moscow Patriarchate: China authorises the ordination of Chinese Orthodox priests on its territory
Metropolitan Hilarion, the Moscow Patriarchate’s ‘foreign minister’, made the announcement after a visit to China where he met the leaders of the State Administration for Religious Affairs. The first priest should serve in Harbin. Two more ordinations are expected. With a new Cold War as the background, the Moscow-Beijing strategic alliance also has a Church connection with the People's Republic recognising the latter’s 'political' role in Russia.

Beijing-Moscow alliance returns, to "rebalance" agreement between US and Japan
President Xi Jinping travels first to Kazakhstan, then Russia and finally Belarus. Moscow visit to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. In reality Beijing and Moscow will discuss security, defense and economics. The trip to Astana aims the expand Chinese influence in Central Asia.

Constructive meeting in Moscow between Russian Orthodox Church and Taiwanese representative
Russians and Taiwanese meet to discuss ways to develop relations between Taiwanese organisations and the Orthodox Church, including the pastoral care for Orthodox faithful living on the island. For some analysts, this rapprochement is a signal to Beijing, which does not recognise Christian Orthodoxy as an official religion.
