Priest killed in the North, the motive remains a mystery
Four farmers from Ralinga province surrounded Fr. Francis Madhu, a native of Flores, as he was preparing to celebrate Palm Sunday mass. They shot him five times, killing him instantly.

Tabuk (AsiaNews/Agencies) – An Indonesian Catholic priest was shot to death by four armed men as he was preparing to celebrate Palm Sunday mass  in Lubuagan, a city in the western province of Kalinga.  The reason for the killing is unknown.

According to Col. Francis Lardizabal, commander in chief of the local police, Fr.  Francis Madhu (31) was shot five times in the chest with an M16 rifle, killing him instantly.

Ralinga Chief of police, Severino Cruz, added that one of the accused  a local farmer, Nestor Wailan, shouted at the priest “Are you ready?” and then shot him.

His parishioners describe Fr. Madhu – native of Flores – as friendly, accessible and always caring of the communities needs.  The apostolic vicar of Tabuk, Msgr. Prudencio Andaya, has travelled to Lubuagan to claim the priest’s body for burial.

What is the true good of the Church in China
by Card. Joseph Zen Ze-kiunOn the eve of an important meeting in Rome on "Jesus our contemporary," Card. Zen asks all Catholics to help the Church in China (and especially its legitimate bishops) to emerge from ambiguity, to follow Benedict XVI and "rid" themselves of those organisms that are enemies of the faith (see PA, Bureau of Religious Affairs, etc. .), and that control and stifle the faithful. The Chinese Church is on the verge of a schism caused by "bargaining" between the Catholic faith and political power. The subtitle of this article (wanted by the author) is: "In dialogue with the Community of Saint Egidio and Gianni Valente of 30Days".

Msgr. Savio Hon: Freedom for arrested bishops and priests, is also good for China
by Bernardo CervelleraEven if the government does not give answers or to the Holy See, or diplomats, or to friends of the Vatican and China, it is important that "no one forgets about them." The Chinese government's official response when asked is always: "We do not know." "We need to pray first," "but we must also appeal to those who are holding them."
