Protests in Gaza, the Israeli army kills a young Palestinian

The victim is only 15 years old, Moamen Ibrahim Abu Eyada. He was hit by a bullet in the eastern sector of Rafah, in the south of the Strip. At least 184 Palestinian demonstrators have died since the end of March. Israel speaks of "troublemakers" who ignite tires and launch stones and incendiary bombs.

Gaza (AsiaNews / Agencies) - Israeli security forces opened fire to quell a rally yesterday evening in the Gaza Strip, killing a young Palestinian. The confirmation comes from the local health minister, while on the opposite front in the Israeli army there are no official confirmations of the "incident" so far.

According to reports by Ashraf Al-Qidra, spokesman for the Ministry of Health, the victim is called Moamen Ibrahim Abu Eyada and is 15 years old.  He was hit by a bullet fired by Israeli soldiers during a protest in the eastern sector of the town of Rafah, located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, not far from the Egyptian border.

From March 30th, coinciding with the beginning of the "March for the Return", the border that separates the Strip from Israel has been the scene of repeated demonstrations by the Palestinians. In recent months there have been numerous episodes of violence, defined as a "shame" by Israeli activists, in the context of which at least 184 Palestinians have been killed. The prospect of a ceasefire seems unlikely and the parish priest of Gaza himself defines the situation as "desperate".

Israeli army sources say that yesterday there were several episodes of violence along the border between Israel and Palestine "with the participation of hundreds of troublemakers". The demonstrators set tires on fire and threw stones and incendiary bombs at the soldiers, without causing victims or injuries.

On September 18, two Palestinians were killed during anti-Israeli demonstrations that took a violent drift, near the Erez border. The Israeli army responds claiming to protect its borders from external aggressions.

Israel abandoned Gaza in 2005, but maintains a tight control of the territory, borders and the adjacent coast. In these years it has fought three wars with Hamas, the Palestinian extremist movement that dominates the Strip.
