Rajshahi: Islamists kill young Catholic who complained about anti-Christian violence
Ovidio Marandy, an ethnic Santhal, died last Saturday in Gobindoganj (northern Bangladesh). He had organised a demonstration in his village after Islamic extremists had set it on fire to punish Christians for voting in the 5 January election.

The Adibashi Cultural Academy organised a demonstration to demand an impartial investigation into the murder and a proper trial for its authors. Many points about the man's death are still unclear. A tribal Catholic magistrate, he was found dead after he complained about an attack by some Islamic fundamentalists.

The opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) calls for a three-day strike, resulting in clashes with police and government supporters. The BNP wants a caretaker government to prepare the country for new parliamentary elections (January 2014), but the prime minister is opposed. Dhaka, female murder victim laid to rest in Christian cemetery
The identity of the victim, whose body was found April 30 at the edge of a road, is unknown. The authorities have entrusted the task of burial to the Catholic Church because she wore a medallion with the image of the Virgin Mary. The body showed signs of violence.
