UN Security Council to vote on truce resolution in Syria, but Russia casts doubts
The text calls for a 30-day truce in order to deliver humanitarian aid and evacuate wounded from eastern Ghouta, a rebel enclave under government siege. In five days of attacks at least 400 people have been killed. People have also died in Damascus. Moscow threatens to use its veto if the resolution is unfavourable to its Syrian ally.

Syrian military kills 88 in Houla, scores of wounded, in what activists call a massacre
Activists slam violence by Syrian government forces. Video of dead children are posted online, but independent verification is impossible. Thousands of people protested yesterday after Friday prayers. For UN's Ban Ki-moon, the situation is "extremely serious".
Lebanese border village shelled as UN calls for a stop to the violence
The village of al-Qaa is hit, wounding one person. The UN Security Council adopts a statement with Russia and China voting in favour.
