We appeal to your generosity. If every reader donated 30 euro, AsiaNews would be able to continue to operate for another year. The aid campaigns on behalf of Iraqi Christians, Chinese seminarians and prisoners in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and India show that AsiaNews readers are willing and determined.

Rome (AsiaNews) - What follows is an appeal letter by AsiaNews' editor-in-chief.

Dear friends,

last year we asked for charitable donations on behalf of Mosul Christians, after they were robbed of everything, often even of their life, but never of their faith. We surprised the whole world for the generosity you showed. In return, our faith grew stronger and humanity became less indifferent.

In the past, we asked for your help in order to send 20 young Chinese to World Youth Day where they could meet with the pope. Some of those young people are now seminarians; others are missionaries in colleges, bearing witness in a society soured by atheism and materialistic consumerism.

On other occasions, we asked you to pay heed and pray for Christians imprisoned in Saudi Arabia, as well as for the many faithful in Pakistan, or India, or in Laos whose fate was at stake. Your answer was always swift, determined, and overwhelming.

In all this, AsiaNews was a means of information, relationship, friendship and sharing. Now the time has come for us to ask you to help us to live as an instrument for all-inclusive brotherhood and awareness.

We make this request with fear in our hearts: you were already so generous in other situations, and we know the difficulties that the ongoing economic crisis is causing to so many families.

However, for the sake of the peoples of Asia, of persecuted Christians, of the men and women who without us would not have voice, we ask you to make an effort and help us at AsiaNews continue our mission.

We estimate that a € 30 donation from every AsiaNews reader would guarantee us the means to carry on our work for a year.

With only € 30, silence and indifference could be held at bay, and relations and solidarity would be allowed to grow.
