Israel strikes Houthi infrastructure in Yemen

ISRAEL – YEMEN
The Israeli army bombed the three ports of Hodeidah, Ras-Isa and as-Salif and the Rais Khatib power station in areas controlled by the Houthis, who responded by firing a series of missiles towards Israeli territory. There are no reports of casualties. The Israeli attacks, carried out last night, were the first in Yemen in almost a month and came after the army said it had intercepted a missile fired by the Houthis in the early hours of the day.
BRICS
At the end of their summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the BRICS countries condemned the increase in tariffs and the attacks on Iran, but refrained from mentioning US President Donald Trump by name. The group's statement, which also criticised Israel's military actions in the Middle East, spared Russia, which is part of the bloc but did not attend the summit, and mentioned war-torn Ukraine only once. Chinese President Xi Jinping was also absent from the meeting. Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva also criticised the increase in NATO spending to 5% of GDP.
RUSSIA
Andrei Badalov, vice-president of Russian oil company Transneft, died in Moscow at the age of 62. His body was found on the ground by a security guard after he fell from the 17th floor, even though he lived on the 10th floor. His death has been ruled a suicide. This is the latest in a long series of “high-profile deaths” among top managers of large companies in recent years.
TAIWAN
This morning, Typhoon Danas hit the west coast of Taiwan, killing two people and injuring more than 300. Over 580,000 families were left without electricity and schools and offices were closed. In the coming days, the monsoon is expected to reach western and southern China, which have already called hundreds of boats back to port and evacuated thousands of residents.
JAPAN
Dozens of people have fled the southern islands of Akuseki and Kubo due to 1,600 almost continuous earthquakes recorded since 21 June. No serious physical damage has been reported so far, but residents have reported being under great stress and suffering from sleep deprivation. Experts believe the cause may be magma flows from an underwater volcano, but said they could not predict how long the tremors would last.
VIETNAM
Vietnam's Ministry of Health has ordered all hospitals to issue only electronic prescriptions starting in October. This is part of a circular regulating the use of medicines, but it is the third time the Vietnamese government has extended the deadline. The aim is to link all public and private medical prescriptions through unique identifiers, allowing pharmacies to verify and dispense medicines safely, the authorities explained.
UZBEKISTAN – AFGHANISTAN
The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, attended the Eurasian Economic Cooperation Organisation summit in Khankendi, Azerbaijan, where he met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan, Abdul Ghani Baradar, with whom he signed agreements to increase trade between Tashkent and Kabul in various sectors, bringing the balance to billion.
