Orissa, first State center for people with HIV / AIDS inaugurated

The Vincent Seva Sadan was desired by the Diocese of Balasore. It will support, care for and treat of people living with HIV or full-blown AIDS. The Apostolic Nuncio to India gives it his blessing.

Balasore (AsiaNews ) - The Apostolic Nuncio in India , Msgr. Salvatore Pennacchio, has inaugurated the first center for people with HIV / AIDS in Orissa. The Vincent Seva Sadan was an initiative of the local diocese of Balasore, and will be directed by the Daughters of Charity.

The new center is built in line with the efforts of the Orissa government to control the HIV virus. "Care and treatment for AIDS patients - said Msgr. Thomas Thiruthalil, bishop of the diocese of Balasore - was a dream for the entire state, and thanks to this center we can do it."

The Vincent Seva Sadan will provide medical care , prescriptions, shelter and all other services necessary for people with HIV or full-blown AIDS , regardless of class , religion, caste or language.

The inauguration ceremony was held on January 29 in the presence of a hundred people, including bishops, priests , nuns and lay people from all walks of life.
