Schools run by Hindu nationalists injecting "venom" in our society, says Indian minister

Arjun Singh, who heads the federal human resources department, said that schools run by the 'Saraswati Shishu Mandir' are a danger. Originally, Hindu nationalists set up these schools to lead Indian youth "to the right path".

Delhi (AsiaNews) – Union (federal) Human Resources Minister Arjun Singh criticised schools run by Hindu nationalists. He said people should be weary of the "venom injected into society by them" and possibly avoid these schools altogether.

Speaking to reporters, Mr Singh criticised educational institutions run by the Saraswati Shishu Mandir that were established as early as 1952 for the purpose of leading Indian youths "to the right path". In his view, they are poisoning the very heart of society.

The Central Advisory Board for Education has been monitoring these schools and has prepared a report on what they teach. "We are looking into what can be done," the minister said.

Asked about a possible ban on the educational institutions, he insisted that the "nation should understand the damage done by such institutions. [. . .] The country is one and we cannot have different kinds of education for different religions and different regions".
