US Commission on International Religious Freedom in Hanoi
Hanoi (AsiaNews) – Vietnam completely understands the UN charter on Human Rights, but believes that it should be based on the Constitution and Laws of each individual state. This is what Prime Minister Nguyên Tân Dung maintained, when on October 23rd he received a delegation from the US Commission on International Religious Freedom in Hanoi.
While expressing his wish that the delegation may be able to carry out their work, Dung however, deliberately underlined that the delegation must carry out its studies and elaborate its ideas on the state of religious freedom in Vietnam objectively, reflecting the truth and avoiding unbalanced points of view.
In the press release published by Nhan Dan, the Communist party daily, the premier affirmed that Vietnam is willing to discuss their divergences on religion with the United States. “The Party and the stated – he said – always respect the freedom of conscience of the people”, but, he added, each nation has its own history and cultural traditions which explain the different view points. And “The Vietnamese Government is always willing to listen to and enter into negotiations with the US on the differences”.
