Breast cancer awareness month in Sri Lanka
Some 700 clinics are set up in the country’s public hospitals, offering free diagnostic tests. Each year, 500 women die from this form of cancer; women between 35 and 40 years are the most at risk.

Hue: Catholic nuns and Buddhist women together to fight breast cancer
Every year, 4,500 Vietnamese women die from cancer. Over a ten-year period, the rate jumped by 69 per cent. Lack of preventive measures and financial means as well as social stigma deter people from seeking treatment. A group of Catholic nuns, medical practitioners and Buddhist volunteers organised a seminar to raise awareness about the problem, and allay fears about the pain.

Iranian study reveals abortion increases the risk of breast cancer
The study has been confirmed by similar research in Sri Lanka and the United States. Women who had abortions in the past have 242% more chance of contracting breast cancer. Every pregnancy after the first child reduces the risk of cancer by 50%.

Sapna Tracy, pro-life mother who refused abortion to save herself, dies
The woman leaves her husband and eight children. Sapna was pregnant with her last child when doctors advised her to abort and immediately start the treatment for breast cancer. She received "Pro-Life Award".

Sri Lankan papers go "anti-mosquito" for a day to fight dengue fever
On the occasion of National Mosquito Control Week (2-8 April) and World Health Day (7 April), two national newspapers print a special edition using ink infused with citronella oil, a natural repellent that keeps away the mosquitoes that cause hemorrhagic fever. In the first part of 2014, some 6,104 cases of dengue fever were recorded in the country.
