Coptic Orthodox priest beating by Israeli police
The incident took place on 4 May during Holy Saturday celebrations in Jerusalem. The Patriarchate and local Christians complain of police brutality. For Jerusalem bishop, "denying access to the Holy Sepulchre and mistreating pilgrims, including the elderly and disabled, have nothing to do with security."
Two Coptic Christians killed on the eve of Orthodox Pascha
The murder took place in the village of Hagaza in southern Egypt. The two were returning from celebrations at their local church. A third Christian was seriously injured. The attackers are believed to be Muslims of the area. The police state that this was a vendetta between rival clans.
Orissa: unacceptable police violence against demonstrators defending their land
On 15 May, police attacked peaceful villagers protesting against the expropriation of their land. A fact-finding team saw evidence of violence, calling for formal charges to be laid against police and an end to the expropriation.

Thousands from all over the world in procession from the Mount of Olives to the Old City of Jerusalem. For the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Palm Sunday is the rejection of all violence. Number of pilgrims doubled compared to 2012.

Attacks and threats against the often targeted Chaldean parish of the Holy Spirit continue. “We offer our suffering as a token of love for Jesus,” parishioners say. Holy Week rites take place in an underground hall to avoid explosions. Greetings are sent to the Pope, “who always holds the Iraqi people in his heart.”

Nuncio in Holy Land: Easter between checkpoints and war
Mgr Antonio Franco talks about Easter for Christians in the Holy Land. More than 20,000 people took part in Palm Sunday services. Checkpoints in the territories and the war in Syria have discouraged pilgrims. At the Holy Sepulchre, many visitors are tourists, few are believers. In Jordan, Catholics and Orthodox celebrate Easter on the same date following the Julian calendar.
