Five years after the Orissa pogroms, Christians still live in appalling conditions
The victims of the anti-Christian violence in 2007 and 2008 are still denied justice and assistance. Hundreds of people are still without identity papers or title deeds. Violence remains an ever present problem, especially for Dalit Christian girls and women.
Orissa: Christians and Hindus, Dalits and tribals of Kandhamal march for peace
Over one thousand people march through the streets of Bhubaneswar to ask local authorities to ensure justice and peace after the anti-Christian pogrom of 2008. Dalits and tribal peoples complain of continuing discrimination by the Hindus.
After the pogroms, the Church in Orissa working to remove fear and suspiciousness in people
On the International Day of Peace, people from different religious backgrounds took part joint activities in Kandhamal to promote interfaith dialogue between Christians and Hindus two years after anti-Christian pogroms broke out. “Efforts are being made to remove fear and suspiciousness among the people,” the archbishop of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar said.
Orissa Christians hope for justice, Indian activist says
In an interview with AsiaNews, Ram Puniyani, Convenor of the National People’s Tribunal, talks about the latter’s report on the 2008 anti-Christian pogroms. For him, the issue was not religious but the political use of poverty among Hindu Adivasi and Christian Dalits by Hindu fundamentalists.
Spiritual retreat for clergymen hurt during Orissa persecution
Organised by Mgr John Barwa, archbishop of Cuttack-Bhubaneshwar, the meeting will be held from 10 to 14 December. It will bring together clergymen hurt during anti-Christian pogroms in Kandhamal (2008). Fr Errol Fernandes, a Jesuit priest will run the retreat, speaks about it. Besides the pain and suffering, Christ "must remain the inspiration" to face every challenge.

Supreme Court: More compensation to Christian victims of Kandhamal
The supreme court ruled that the payment granted previously is inadequate. In 2011 the local government of Kandhamal has allocated 273 thousand euro for reconstruction. It is not yet established the extent of reparation. Catholic activist: "It is important that the judges are concerned."
