Four priests arrested in Shandong, appeal to the Holy See and Church
The clergymen were holding a spiritual retreat for priests. At present, they are held in isolation in Dongming without water and food. Public security and the Religious Affairs Bureau want to force them to join the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association, which is trying to create a breakaway Church, independent of the pope. Underground Catholics urge action by the Holy See and the universal Church to free them.
Heze, 2 years hard labour for Fr. Wang for refusing to submit to PA
The priest is the diocesan administrator of the underground community. Relatives friends barred from visiting him during detention, but a Catholic source tells AsiaNews: "He was condemned for his firmness in refusing to subscribe to the Patriotic Association." The community asks the universal Church and the Holy See to pray for him and do everything for his release. Meanwhile, 30 believers from Tianshui released.
The Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association celebrates 50 years at a less than ideal moment
Founded on August 2, 1957, the association is less and less able to serve its original purpose, namely to manage the Catholic community on behalf of the government. Some 5,000 invited guests are expected for the celebrations but many will be absent.

Police arrest underground Zhengding bishop Jia Zhiguo
He was taken from his home by 5 police officers. For weeks, he had been under surveillance 24 hours a day, to prevent him from meeting with the official bishop, with whom he had reconciled on instructions from the Vatican. A blow to the Holy See's strategy of unifying the Chinese Church, while the meeting of the Plenary Commission on the Church in China continues at the Vatican. Bishop Jia Zhiguo was also taunted by the police.

Chinese priest sentenced to three years for inaugurating a state-sanctioned church
False testimonies and party-influenced judges are a slap in the face of Hu Jintao’s “harmonious society.” Underground Catholics are learning the meaning of “normalisation" so that they can toe the line of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association whose raison d’être, according to the Pope, is “incompatible with Catholic doctrine.”
