A Vatican statement tells of a “very positive atmosphere” and “cordial relations”. Putin referred greetings from Alexi II, the Pope in turn sent his greetings to the Patriarch. Moscow Patriarchate sources tended to exclude that Benedict XVI and the Russian President would have touched on questions linked to relations between Catholics and Orthodox in Moscow.

Caritas asks for Orthodox priest to provide pastoral assistance
The Catholic Church in Russia has asked its Orthodox sister to send a priest to provide pastoral care to Orthodox believers working for Caritas in a Nizhniy Novgorod, east of Moscow.
Mgr Kondrusiewicz received by Moscow Patriarchate for first time in years
The Archbishop of the Mother of God was received by Metropolitan Kirill. They highlighted the "union" of the two churches in facing challenges posed by the modern world. The Orthodox Patriarchate requested "coordination" of respective local activities. The problem of orphanages and new parishes was discussed.

Alarming situation for Christians in Aleppo and across Syria, Moscow Patriarchate warns
In a statement, the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate reports what is happening in the Orthodox Archdiocese of Aleppo. With 20 per cent of the city destroyed and electricity and water are in short supply, Christians have fled to Lebanon or elsewhere. As he helps needy families, the Metropolitan of Aleppo and Alexandretta appeals for prayer.
