Pope receives Erdogan: Jerusalem, but also refugees, human rights and the condition of Catholics
The Turkish president meets Francis: the situation in the Middle East and the need to "promote peace and stability in the region through dialogue and negotiation, with respect for human rights and international law". Beyond the cordial climate and the good relations existing on the diplomatic level, there no full religious freedom in Turkey.

Pope's remarks misused by Islamo-nationalists, vicar apostolic says
Taken out of context, the Pope's remarks have raised a storm against his planned visit to Turkey. For Mgr Padovese security is not a real issue. Since Fr Andrea Santoro's murder every priest has a police escort.

The ceremony marking the first anniversary of the missionary’s murder went off without a hitch. His mother and sisters were present at the ceremony. The mayor of the Turkish city and the parents of the young assassin also attended the event.

Mgr Luigi Padovese assassinated in southern Turkey
An aide stabbed the prelate to death. A pastor closely involved in ecumenical work and in the dialogue with Islam, he was getting ready to travel to Cyprus to meet the Pope. After Fr Andrea Santoro was killed, he spoke about the slain priest. The director of the Holy See Press Office comments the event.
