Thailand, Islamic rebels disguised as policemen fire on crowd: 5 dead and 3 injured
The attack took place yesterday evening in a village in Pattani province with a Muslim majority. Two children are also among the dead.

Queen’s plan includes 347 Buddhist monks who have decided to move into hundreds of temples abandoned in southern Thailand as a result of violence perpetrated by Islamic separatists. Their goal is to bring peace and solidarity to a population affected by years of death and civil war.
Bomb attack on Buddhist Festival, four dead and 50 injured
The people had gathered for the traditional feast of the full moon, when a grenade exploded in the crowd, killing two policemen and two civilians. Likely target of a member of a rival gang, active in the province of Maha Sarakham. Seperatist or Islamist involvement excluded.
Thailand, separatist fighters recruited in Islamic schools
The militants play on Malay nationalism and the sense of belonging to the old sultanate on the border between Thailand and Malaysia. The fighters do not have links with international fundamentalist groups, instead operating on a local level. Yesterday a command targeted a Buddhist temple in Narathiwat province, injuring eight people.

More violence in the Muslim majority southern provinces. Since 2004, more than 3,000 have been killed.
