Two green wave leaders hanged in Iran
Two political activists involved in the 2009 post-presidential election protest movement are hanged this morning. Iranian authorities have hanged 99 people in the past month, but the number of extrajudicial executions could be even higher.
Day of mourning in Iranian Kurdistan for the execution of five political prisoners
Protests in several cities in the region, despite the massive police presence. The most prominent of those killed was a 34 year old teacher, convicted of "taking up arms against God" after a seven minute trial.

Lhasa: Chinese authorities execute four Tibetans
The four men had been convicted on 8 April, according to the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy. China’s crackdown against ethnic Tibetans continues relentless following unrest on 14 March last year.
Isfahan: Protestant clergyman tortured for “converting Muslims”
During a visit in prison, the pastor’s wife saw he had signs of torture. He could be executed. An anti-Protestant crackdown is underway in Isfahan. The regime’s fight against proselytising is coupled with fears that Christian gatherings might host its opponents.

Riyadh executes 47 "terrorists", including Shia leader Nimr al-Nimr
These are the first executions of the new year. Last year more than 150 people were executed. Sheikh al-Nimr had criticised the marginalisation of the Shia community in the predominantly Sunni Saudi Arabia. Iran has responded with threats.
New wave of public executions in Iran
After the execution of Kobra Rahmanpour was suspended, Iran’s judiciary hangs seven men in Mashhad. Under the gallows a banner read “Carrying out justice equals increasing security.” Since the beginning of the year, 143 executions have been carried out.
