KAZAKHSTAN - SYRIA
Whole families from Kazakhstan travelling to Syria for jihad
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is organising family trips to Syria for Muslims from Central Asia. In some cases, as many as 150 people, including women and children, have travelled in the past few months. In one video, a young Kazakh says he came to Syria with his parents to become a martyr for Islam.
Syrian Christians in the war between fundamentalists and secularists, Sunnis and Shiites
Al Qabas, Kuwait's daily newspaper, reports the arrival in Syria of jihadists from Saudi Arabia, Algeria and Pakistan. Among them many are under 18 years of age. Turkey serves as a transit point for weapons and people. A war of fundamentalism against the Alawite Shia and Sunni fundamentalism against the secularism of the Assad dictatorship. The distrust of Christians. The ambiguous West.

Islamic State destruction in Mar Elian monastery is “total"
Caritas coordinator Fr Iyad Ghanem describes the devastation at the church, monastery and hostel. Jihadis blew up the saint’s tomb. At present, Al-Qaryatayn is a ghost town littered with mines and unexploded bombs, which need to be cleared. However, the greatest tragedy is the flight of Christians; for them, what is needed are "prayer and mercy."
For Father Youssef, staying in Syria under the bombs was a “test of faith"
The monk belongs to the community of Deir Mar Musa, founded by Fr Dall'Oglio. He experienced directly the Syrian civil war and "what it means to really have faith or not,” noting that monks and nuns “discussed every day whether to stay” in Syria or not. “We stayed out of solidarity for our Christian and Muslim friends in al-Nabek,” not to become martyrs. The religious hosted 50 Muslim refugee families, and helped repair 63 Christian homes damaged by the siege of al-Nabek.

Idlib, al Nusra Front spokesman and 20 other Islamists killed by air strike
The victims include Abu Firas and his son as well as several foreign fighters. Uncertainty about the author of the attack, the Syrian air force or Russian forces. Targets of extremist movement Jund al-Aqsa also hit. The Alawite leaders distance themselves from Assad: Syria is not tied to a family but to democracy and rights.
