Chinese-printed Qur‘ans full of typos and spelling errors

Tehran (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Perhaps Iranian publishers thought they might save some money, but in return they got unsellable Qur‘ans full of typos and spelling errors. Now, officials are discussing a ban on Chinese-printed holy books.
Ahmad Haji-Sharif, head of Iran's Qur'an oversight office, warns consumers that cheap Qur‘ans may have mistakes in the holy verses.
Iranian-produced Qur‘ans might carry a higher price, he noted earlier this week, but they at least have passed a careful inspection for flaws.
Qur‘ans in use in Iran often have text in both Farsi and the original Arabic. Haji-Sharif did not say whether the misspellings prevail in the Arabic or Farsi segments.
