BANGLADESH
Bangladeshi opposition leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, general secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and dozens of his party members were arrested after violent anti-government protests in Dhaka. Over the weekend, tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
IRAN
The funeral of Armita Garavand, the 17-year-old killed in an alleged clash with the morality police for violating the law on wearing a veil, took place yesterday amidst massive security measures. Witnesses report the arrest of several people, including two of the girl's relatives, and the use of force by the officers. A crowd attended the funeral, in an event reminiscent of that of Mahsa Amini.
VIETNAM
Forecasts for textile and clothing exports in Vietnam indicate a decline varying between 5 and 6.3%, with a loss in the sector of around 41 billion dollars for the current year. A decrease linked to the weaknesses of the global market, with serious repercussions for the country: after smartphones and electronics, textiles are the third leading sector of the local economy.
ISRAEL - PALESTINE
During the night, the Israeli army reportedly killed "dozens" of Hamas militiamen in Gaza, which is still subject to heavy bombing and ground operations with tanks. Clashes also occurred in Jenin, in the West Bank, with at least four Palestinians killed. Meanwhile, the Dagestan authorities have arrested at least 60 people in connection with yesterday's attack at the airport, which targeted passengers on a flight from Tel Aviv. There were around 150 attackers hunting "Jews", with around twenty injured.
INDIA
The still provisional toll from a collision between two trains which occurred yesterday in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh is at least 13 dead and dozens injured. At least three carriages of one of the two vehicles, loaded with passengers, derailed in the accident: the Visakhapatnam-Ragada stopped due to the breakage of an overhead cable and the arriving train, Visakhapatnam-Palasa Express, hit it.
HONG KONG - CHINA
Some Muslims at Hong Kong's largest mosque in Kowloon raised the Beijing flag at official ceremonies in July and October to celebrate the city's handover to China in 1997 and the October 1 national holiday. A move that has aroused dismay and disappointment among the majority of the faithful, who speak of a "challenge" to Islamic doctrine.
MALAYSIA - SINGAPORE
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is leading a high-level delegation to Singapore today for the tenth meeting between the city-state's leaders and Kuala Lumpur, the first since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. In the United States there is the capacity to produce 3 thousand devices per year, in China up to 150, in Russia only 40.
KAZAKHSTAN
In Kazakhstan, a terrible methane explosion occurred in the Kostenko coal mine in the Karaganda region, where 42 people have been confirmed dead so far, out of 252 miners present inside, and several are still missing. Over twenty of them are hospitalized with serious symptoms of poisoning; President Kasym-Žomart Tokaev went to the site.
