Korea, great anticipation ahead of second Kim-Trump summit

Denuclearization and economic concessions the issues that will be addressed by the two leaders. Pyongyang invokes patriotism: "Let us try to show the world the dignity and stature of our nation". In Seoul, President Moon meets religious leaders: "Peace for prosperity that benefits everyone".

Seoul (AsiaNews / Agencies) - A few days ahead of the second summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald J. Trump, the official North Korean press reports declare that the country is about to face " historical turning point ".

The South Korean president Moon Jae-in, who in recent months has successfully held the role of mediator between Washington and Pyongyang, asks for the support of the main religious leaders of the country to achieve the goals set by his government: the denuclearization of North Korea and the improvement of inter-Korean relations.

The editorial published today by the Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun reveals the great expectations that Pyongyang has for talks with the US, which will take place in Hanoi (Vietnam), between February 27th and 28th. "It is time for us to tighten our shoe strings and run fast, looking for a higher target as we are facing a decisive moment".

Observers say the summit will focus on measures for denuclearization of the North and subsequent US economic concessions. Invoking efforts for economic development, the Northern newspaper underlines the "surprising results" that the regime has obtained at "Edo", an island off the west coast of the country. "It's about patriotism, conviction and will," adds the editorial. " With the nation-first sprit in mind, let's try to demonstrate our nation's dignity and stature to the world with every single creature".

If the North prepares for the summit in Hanoi recalling the country to patriotism, in South Korea President Moon has taken part in a rare meeting with the leaders of the seven most widespread religions on the national territory.

During the meeting, held this morning at the Blue House, Moon expressed the hope that the second Trump-Kim summit will lead to "specific and visible" denuclearization. "I hope that you will continue to lend your support so that peace on the Korean peninsula leads to prosperity that benefits everyone," he said.
