Nobel Peace Laureates in Asia, “build a society of peace through dialogue”

The Vienna-based International Peace Foundation, has confirmed a visit by 21 Nobel laureates, part of the “Southeast Asia-wide peace dialogue project”.

Manila (AsiaNews) – Bridges of dialogue towards a culture of peace. That is the aim of 21 Nobel Peace Laureates, who will visit the Philippines from November this year to April 2008 as part of the “Southeast Asia-wide peace dialogue project” launched the Vienna-based International Peace Foundation.

 

Prince Alfred of Liechtenstein, chairman of the IPF Advisory Board, confirmed to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo the participation of the Nobel laureates in the event.  The President expressed her “gladness that the country had been chosen to launch this bridge for peace”.

 

During their visits, the Nobel Prize winners will hold discussions will touch on various subjects like politics, science, and culture and will highlight the challenges of both globalization and regionalism and their impact on development and international cooperation.  Each visit will last between four and six days.

 

The meetings will be held at the University of Santo Tomas, (the Catholic Royal and Pontifical University of the Philippines, the Asian Institute of Management, the Department of Science and Technology, and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
