Pope : Assisi , among disabled children, " these wounds need to be heard "

Pope Francis begins his visit to Assisi among disabled children at the Seraphic Institute . " Jesus, when He was resurrected was beautiful . He had no bruises , wounds on his body... Nothing ! He was even more beautiful! Only he wanted to keep his wounds , and brought them into Heaven. The wounds of Jesus are here and are before the Father in heaven . "

Assisi ( AsiaNews) - " These wounds need to be heard." The first stage of Pope Francis' one day visit to Assisi, accompanied by the eight cardinals chosen to advise him in the government of the universal Church, on the feast day of the saint whose name he has chosen, is dedicated to sick and disabled children.

There are 60 little guests at the Seraphic Institute . The Pope has a caress, a kiss, a word for each. A meeting that lasts a long time and that obviously affects the Pope who , in the end, does not read the speech he had prepared, but speaks from the heart .

The whole visit to Assisi , which began before 8 am, when the helicopter that brought him from Rome arrived in the Umbrian town , is marked bythe most significant  "places" of the life of Saint Francis, physical and moral places, like this institution or , later, assisted by Caritas , with whom he will have lunch .

The Seraphic Institute is inspired by a permanent Eucharistic adoration in the church commissioned by the Bishop of Assisi , Msgr. Domenico Sorrentino and the words of the director of the Institute, Frances Maolo , who spoke of the "wounds" that are treated here .

"We - the Pope said - are one and wounds of Jesus ." "These wounds - he continued - they need to be heard , to be recognized . It brings to my mind when the Lord Jesus walked with the two sad disciples. The Lord Jesus finally showed them his wounds and they recognized Him.  Then the bread and he was there . My brother Domenico tells me that there is perpetual Adoration here. Even that bread needs to be heard, because Jesus is present and hidden behind the simplicity and sweetness of a loaf of bread . And here Jesus is hidden among these young people, these children , in these people. We worship the flesh of Jesus at the altar, we find the wounds of Jesus. Jesus hidden in the Eucharist and Jesus hidden in those wounds ... they need to be heard. Maybe not so much in the papers, like a news item... that is heard for maybe only one-two- three days, then replaced by another , another ... they have to be heard by those who call themselves Christians. "

"The Christian - he added - loves Jesus, the Christian seeks Jesus , the Christian will recognize the wounds of Jesus. Today all of us here , we need to say, ' These wounds must be heard ! ' . But there another thing that gives us hope. Jesus is present in the Eucharist, here is the Flesh of Jesus, Jesus is present among you and the Flesh of Jesus are the wounds of Jesus in these people. "

"But it's interesting , when Jesus was resurrected, He was beautiful . He had no bruises , wounds on his ... Nothing ! He was even more beautiful ! Only He wanted to keep His wounds , and He brought them into Heaven. The wounds of Jesus are here and  in heaven before the Father. We must care for the wounds of Jesus here and He , from heaven,  shows us his wounds and says to all of us : ' I am waiting ! . So be it . "

In the speech he had prepared , the Pope asked the needs of the most disadvantaged people at the centre of social policy.  He said they are the "first victims of the " culture of waste " by which our society "is polluted " and promote the works of the" culture of ' acceptance ", " animated by a deep Christian love . "

On leaving the Institute , the Pope went to the sanctuary of Saint Damian , then bishop , the church of Saint Mary Major and the Basilica of St. Francis, in front of which he will celebrate the mass.
