Pope and Council of Cardinals to examine the Holy See's economic and administrative restructuring

The Council met today. Certain proposals have "probably" been already presented. Tomorrow, the Commission for Reference on the Institute for Works of Religion (IOR) will meet. The Extraordinary Consistory on the family will open with a report By Card Kasper.

Vatican City (AsiaNews) - Today Pope Francis with the Council of Cardinals are holding their third meeting with the representatives of the commission studying the economic and administrative re-restructuring of the Holy See (Commission for Reference on the Organisation of the Economic-Administrative Structure of the Holy See or COSEA).

Holy See Press Office director Fr Federico Lombardi said the commission, which has already been at work for seven-eight months, "probably has the first drafts or ideas or proposals," but "no decision has been taken."

"Tomorrow morning," Father Lombardi added, "the other Commission, that studying IOR's re-organisation, will also meet. On Wednesday afternoon, a meeting with the Council of Fifteen will be held. The latter are already in Rome for the consistory. Hence, they will be able to meet the Council of Eight. The two councils can thus start getting together in Wednesday's meeting."

"The Council of Eight has a busy agenda." In fact, if we consider the upcoming schedule, Fr Lombardi said in concluding, we already have on "Thursday morning, 20 February, the Extraordinary Consistory, the meeting to which all cardinals are summoned. On that occasion, in addition to the pope's greeting, Card Kasper will deliver his report on the family. We know that the family is the theme of the Consistory. The cardinals will then follow with their personal statements."
