Pope's letter on the Eucharist now in Urdu

Faisalabad (AsiaNews) – Pakistan's Catholics can now read Mane Nobiscum Domine in their own language. Fr Aftab James Paul, of the Diocese of Faisalabad, translated John Paul II's the Apostolic Letter on the Eucharist in Urdu, Pakistan's official language. As Mgr Joseph Coutts, Bishop of Faisalabad, points out, believers will be able to better understand and appreciate the Pope's thoughts and ideas.

The booklet was translated for the Year of the Eucharist which the Pope announced last October and which is scheduled to last till October of next year. It is available throughout the country.

Participants to the first three meetings organised by the Diocese at Chak Jhumra, 30 km from Faisalabad, had the opportunity to study the Letter. They delved into the various issues it raises and highlighted some of its points for discussion. They also set up a four-member committee to examine all the literature related to the Year of the Eucharist. Following the next regional summit, they will submit a report to all participants.

Bishop Coutts proposed that all conventions, catechists' courses and melas (religious feasts) be centered on the theme of the Year of the Eucharist.

At the regional level, the Letter will be studied and discussed and various steps taken to increase Eucharist awareness among the faithful and enable priests to celebrate Eucharist more meaningfully.

The Eucharist will also be on the agenda of the priests of the Diocese of Faisalabad who will gather for their annual spiritual retreat at Lahore's Renewal Centre from November 15 till 19.

In a letter to the faithful, Bishop Coutts called on everyone to pray for him and the priests who will take part in the retreat. (QF)
