Sri Lanka: Pope, sadness and sorrow for Christians attacked at prayer

Francis expressed his closeness to the people and all the victims of the attacks.

Vatican City (AsiaNews) - Pope Francis expressed his sadness and sorrow following attacks against churches and hotels in Sri Lanka, that killed and injured several people.

After the Urbi et orbi blessing, Francis said: "I heard with sadness and sorrow the news of the serious attacks that, just today, the day of Easter, wrought grief and sorrow to some churches and other meeting places in Sri Lanka."

"I wish to express my heartfelt closeness to the Christian community [of Sri Lanka], wounded as it was gathered in prayer, and to all the victims of such cruel violence," he said.

“I entrust to the Lord all those who have tragically perished, and I pray for the injured and all those who suffer as a result of this tragic event.”
